J.J.Engel & R.M.Schuster, Nova Hedwigia 39: 411 (1985), when making the new combination Chiloscyphus bowieanus, state that the type specimen is from Australia. However, F.Stephani (J. & Proc. Roy. Soc. New South Wales 48: 1178 (1914)) lists the type collection of the basionym Lophocolea bowieana as being from the "New Hebrides" [Vanuatu]. This taxon does not occur in Australia.
