Etymology:
"Notothylas from the Greek nĂ´to meaning dorsal in reference to the position of the sporophyte on the dorsal surface of the thallus and -thylakos meaning a sack in reference to the pouch-like or sack-like shape of the reduced and protective involucres typical of the genus.
