  • Comment: EXCLUDED from Australian bryoflora. The three N.S.W. specimens that were cited for Torrentaria muelleri by Ochyra and Bednarek-Ochyra (2014) are the same ones that are cited by Hedenäs as Platyhypnidium aquaticum. One of them, Streimann 1585, was confirmed by Huttunen and Ignatov (2010) to belong to Rhynchostegium aquaticum, which forms a different clade from the one with R. muelleri and R. brevinerve. One of the two Qld specimens, Stone 25090, has been re-identified to R. brevinerve. Huttunen and Ignatov (2010) also state that R. muelleri (s.s.) does not occur in northern Australia.
