Taxonomic status of this name is uncertain. Frahm (1996) recognised the variety Rhacocarpus rehmannianus var. webbianus. However, in the Flora of Southern Africa (Magill & Van Rooy 1998), Rhacocarpus rehmannianus is considered a synonym of Rhacocarpus purpurascens. Rhacocarpus webbianus most likely is also a synonym of Rhacocarpus purpurascens, but the type needs to be studied to confirm this.
