Not an Australian moss; a mainly Malesian species according to Virtanen (1997: 330). The Australian report of Bartramia gigantea, which was considered a synonym in Streimann & Curnow (1989: 30, 41), is more likely to belong to Breutelia pendula. Tasmanian report not confirmed by Dalton et al. (1991).
