Excluded from Leptostomum and placed in Bryum by Hyvönen (1987: 71), but necessary new combination or placement in synonymy was not made. Also the Flora of Australia treatment for Leptostomataceae (Ramsay 2006d: 353) states that L. depile is probably a species of Bryum s.l., but the name is not mentioned in the treatment for Bryaceae (Spence & Ramsay 2006).
